Grow Up!

Who matures faster? Men or women?

Maturity is the state or quality of being fully grown or developed. Although newborns, both male and female, are born the same way, around the same size, and most likely, a majority of the time in the same condition PHYSICALLY, you would think that it would automatically occur the same way internally, right? But it does not! Scientific researchers have proven that from birth a baby's brain has already begun to shape into a male or female's brain. Being that further research has stated that female brains develop faster than a male's, it is safe to say that females mature quicker than males.

Often times most women wonder why they are always stuck meeting a man who is immature, plays too much, and/or is just plain childish. We would think they would be able to control their boyish thoughts, words, and actions but unfortunately due to nature they cannot. It is not because they do not want to, it is simply because they are not on that woman's level of maturity yet. From personal experience we all know that a lot of females prefer to date older guys. Only because we know that males our age are probably not equivalent to the standards that we want to be met. So we seek guys that are maybe 2-4 years older than us because we feel as if that age range will be on the same (or higher) intellectual and romantic level that women prefer to take interest in.

Women's Brains have been shown to progress ahead of a man's brain by two years at a young age. The male advantage in general intelligence does not emerge until after puberty, mainly because genetically girls mature faster than boys. Men and women are so diverse in so many aspects. Possibly from being more well rounded at a young age, women could easily and simply elaborate on why they develop quicker than men. Men have a very simple lifestyle compared to women. It ranges from the different routines they may perform in the morning to the number of words they use throughout one day.

 Immature Man

"We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same." -Carlos Catsenada. We can imply that his statement means that only you can decide to become mature or not. We have to transcend above anything that is going to have us acting immature and become hungry for maturity. "The ability to accept responsibility is the measure of the man." -Roy Smith. We have to practice and seek out growth and measure it with maturity and the principle of the matter is that we all have to grow up at some point and when we stop growing is when we die.

Blog post #2 Sandusky scandal

Going into the summer of 2012 the Penn State Nittany Lions had high hopes on next season they began practicing for the upcoming season. They were ranked, and known for being an elite team and was presented to America as an old fashion team that does everything the right way. An out of nowhere on one November day “the abuse scandal touched off by Sandusky’s Nov. 5 arrest rocked Penn State, bringing down famed coach Joe Paterno and the university’s president and leading the NCAA to levy unprecedented sanctions against the university’s football program.

So this brings me to the question of have you ever sit and thought if your child away at school was actually safe? It is really a good question because if your child is just a regular student you are paying thousands of dollars for your child to go to basically a random place that you don’t
Know much about. In Penn state's case it was different. They had a coach that was violating his players for about a “(15 year) period.” This is a scandal that puzzles most because how could you coach under one of college football's greatest coaches Joe Paterno for 40 year which and some claim that Joe Paterno didn’t know. They were most then just on a coaching staff they were actually friends so i’m sure that he knew about the sexually abuse that was taking place between Sandusky and his players. So ask yourself if Sandusky was a sexually predator what is Joe Paterno since he knew about the molestation.

This scandal has cause all type of controversy over America because Penn State is not a place where something like this would usually happen because it is a classic type school that is based off football and academics also known for having a great coaching staff and a dependable experiences coach. This rocked the fans of Penn State when they found out that their assistant coach had been molesting his players for some of 15 years. Then you had some that were such true fans that they didn't believe it. However Jerry Sandusky was charged with 52 criminal counts of sexually abuse on 10 players in 15 years. This cause Jerry Sandusky to get fired and possible played a part in Joe Paterno death. By Paterno’s passing it made this controversy even worst because some blamed the death of Paterno on Sandusky which made the weight of every worst on Sandusky.

As of now Jerry Sandusky is awaiting his sentencing on his trail which is Oct. 9th. From all the media and reading stories on the web most say he will spend the rest of his life in jail. He is currently 68 years of age, and the least amount of years he is said to get his about 40!! You never know because anything could happen in the courtroom only way to know what’s going to happen is to wait until Oct. 9th.

A Friendship between Mars and Venus

Can males and females truly be friends? I would like to think that males and females can
be friends without any physical attraction, just genuine feelings for each other. So many people confuse friendship with lust and love, but can the genders just be friends? Since the beginning of time males have always had a companion which is the female and even since they had been made to be with each other. I think there is a line between friendship and what we would say today “Friends with benefits”, but the question is where do we draw that line? I think it should stand firmly in front of the thing we call romance. Romance is a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love. We all know most male-female relationship turn into some kind of romance and ruins perfectly good friendships. So if we simply avoid romance we should be able to just have a stable friendship between gender. There is no reason a guy can’t just can’t be friends with a female because of something they have in common. Yes males and females can have things in common. Sports isn’t only for males; I know a number of females that like sports just as much as any guy I know. There are also girls that are “sneakerheads” and into more things of that nature just like there are guys that are more in touch with their feminine side and there isn’t anything wrong with that. We all need someone you can just sit down and talk to without all the worries of hurting feelings because of what you might say. Now you see that men and women can also be friends. As males we sometimes may need advice from the perspective of a female. So can the two truly be friends? A psycology report says “The belief that men and women can’t be friends comes from another era in which women were at home and men were in the workplace”. Therefore the two can actually coexist as just friends. It is much easier to communicate with someone of the opposite sex as well so why let the nature order of things become clouded by the irrelavant things like romance or anything else of that nature. Rabbi Shmuley states "men and women can be friends as long as they follow certain rules". "Starting with, you can't go on late night dates. You can have lunch in public but you should not order alcoholic beverages. Second you shouldn't take long drives or flights even if it is for work. Third you can't put yourself in a position for romance to grow and thrive. Forth you can't share secret with a platonic male or female friend that you wouldn't share with you spouse. Fifth and final you should not be friends with ex lovers". As we see there are certain boundaries that we must follow to maintain the stable title of just friendship. Avoiding these simple things should make it easy for you to have a true friendship with a male or female. As one can see, our society sets boundaries that should be held between a man and a woman to have a stable friendship with out having relations. In my opinion, if we uphold these boundaries we should be able to reach true friendship between male and female.

Men and Women as Equal

Blog Post Two
Are Women in America Treated Differently Than Men in Today’s Age?

Everyone has their own opinion on whether men and women are treated equally. Some believe that women’s rights have evolved incredibly, going from “housewives”, to holding careers like senators and lawyers; others believe that we as a country, are far from equality between men and women. In fact, as unlikely as it may seem, studies show that women are still primarily treated unfairly compared to men. As the Washington Post” states, “women make only 76 cents compared to a man’s dollar; make up the majority of Americans living in poverty; and hold only 17% of the seats in congress”, which shows the lack of power they have in the U.S government to date. Although women are just as educated as men, the numbers continue to drop as time goes on. After reading the statistics, It would be safe to say that they are not taken as seriously as men. This should be changed immediately, due to it having an important impact on the entire country, rising as high of a status as the president of the U.S.
Females also experience more violence compared to males. As the “U.S Department of Justice” study states in 2008, “females experienced about 552,000 nonfatal victimizations”. That same article also states that, compared to only 101,000 (450,000 less) that occurred to men from women, a ratio of 4.3 to 0.8. This rate shows the large amount of turmoil afflicted to females as compared to that to males. Males also experience turmoil in the country although the more troubled situations happen to the women. The study also states that violence to women declined 53% from the years of 1993 to 2008, which is a positive, and is one thing that speaks highly of our countries culture toward women.
As the “Scholastic” article “Women in the U.S today” states briefly, “Although more doors are open to women today, there seems to be a ‘glass ceiling,’ a level above which women do not rise”. Some women carry executive positions in in the workforce, although it is not too common that they will. It also states that women have slowly become leaders in professions, especially in medicine and law; not to overlook sanitary workers, police officers, and firefighters, which are dominated in the workplace primarily by men today. “Not only have women often been denied fair salaries, but they have paid a price for trying to "have it all" — both a career and a family. More and more women are feeling the pressure of trying to balance their personal and professional lives.” They also have to balance their lives with raising a family as some do, to support them. Many men see women as just a “housewife” type of figure in society, while the male works. However, more and more women are beginning to break out of that shell of, the things that are only done by the men in society.
In all, women and men in America are treated differently, some in positive ways, and some in negative ways, but as most research actually shows, most, unfortunately, are in a negative way as it may seems. It may be this way now, but I am sure it should change as years progress, and as the country moves forward with accepting women into higher levels of authority, and with much more respect to others as well. No one’s perfect and everyone has their own opinion about many topics and social issues throughout the country, ours being the treatment of women in contrast to that of men. If the world was perfect, men and women would be treated as equals, but since it’s not, we could agree or disagree on the topic chosen in the writing, which I hope makes you think about the discussion in this writing. Thank you.

Concussions Change the Game

Over the past number of years, there have been numerous head injuries throughout football on all levels. It has become a bigger issue each year because the injuries seem to increase and cause more problems. These problems being, that there are rules that have been changed to create a safer environment for the sport and there is still issues with concussions. Also, management has created new helmets to adjust to the force being created with big hits and that has cut down but there are still ways to be put in that harmful situation. So, why does it seem like concussions are becoming more out of control as much as we try to make the game safer?

Simple, the game will evolve and there will be changes made but that doesn’t mean we will get different results. Time after time, there is this new rule or equipment to help make the game better but concussions always seem to appear almost every other game. In today’s game, we have stronger, bigger, and faster athletes. So, its liable that more injuries occur and especially if guys are getting hit in the head. Then, how can this problem be fix. Honestly, I feel that there may always be concussions in the game of football because players play a certain way and the game of football is about being totally aggressive. Most players have been taught to play aggressive and to be instinctive. If a guy plays defense, he has to do his best to get the ball back from the offense. There have been steps to improve this violent situation and hopes to prevent such violent acts. If a player hits another player helmet to helmet, then that player is penalized for that play and cost his team yards. Although, these rules has been put into play and that they are crashing down hard on this rule, it doesn’t stop players from hitting with their heads. Here is a link that shows football players how to tackle:http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&ved=0CEIQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fyfbca.org%2Ftackling_tips&ei=8Z1YUMDAOJKO9AT5iYFI&usg=AFQjCNFdKkllx5WV1QMc1o-uovr3Kw6eQQ&sig2=MfRueJ9L-cMyEwj9OH6m6g

This situation also have a long term effect on the players too. There have been formers players who are now dealing with brain damages for past concussions. At one point, there were more than 2,000 former NFL(National Football League) players filed a lawsuit against the NFL. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CB8QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fabcnews.go.com%2FUS%2Fnfl-players-file-lawsuit-league-concussions%2Fstory%3Fid%3D16514359&ei=u6BYUOi2EoO68wSiqIHoCA&usg=AFQjCNFzp5dX6AUEYkW31641dgEb5MW55w&sig2=E29sA0M5B5Yu7UH1vzi50Q.
I do not disagree with the former players because maybe this information could have helped their situation. If a player risk his life and is entertainment for the NFL, then at least the NFL can provide them with information that is so valuable concerning their well-being. There was a survey done in 2000 and if you go to this link, then you should get an idea on just how bad it was back in only just ten years ago.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CDcQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Ftopics.nytimes.com%2Ftop%2Freference%2Ftimestopics%2Fsubjects%2Ff%2Ffootball%2Fhead_injuries%2Findex.html&ei=JpBYUPPHE5Tk9gT78IGQBg&usg=AFQjCNGUH_G4GSU6DBAqPWB2NxW5lL-qJA&sig2=bRZFjjVLEP7DlNfU73NTuQ
Hopefully, the game of football can become safer because we don't want to see the concussions. It's all about wanting to want to do better. People will say they want the game to become safer but they also have to let their actions speak.

Falcons V Cheifs: The Sportings Edge Blog

After scoring only 2 points in their playoff loss to the Super Bowl champion New York Giants, the Atlanta Falcons were determined to solidify an offensive identity and become one of the most feared offenses in football. Newly acquired offensive coordinator Dirk Kotter quickly brought in a new scheme that would center Matt Ryan and Julio Jones’ talents. As for the defense, the Falcons not only added Mike Nolan to run the defense but All-Pro cornerback Assante Samuel will be a key in the secondary.

With high expectations entering the 2012 season, the new look Atlanta Falcons opened the season at Kansas City facing a stingy Cheifs defense lead by safety Eric Berry. But, Berry and the rest of the Chiefs defense were no match for Matt Ryan, also known as Matty Ice, who accounted for 4 total touchdown(1 rushing) to go along with nearly 300 yards passing. 2nd year wideout Julio Jones caught 2 of Ryan’s touchdowns and former Chief Tony Gonzalez had the other. Atlanta as a team put up 40 points versus the Cheifs.

Defensively, the Falcons struggled during the second half, allowing Kansas City it score 17 points also allowing Matt Cassel to get off to a hot start. Jamal Charles, the Cheifs elusive every down back had long run of 40 yards during the 1st half as well. After halftime, it was a different ball game. The defense shut out the Chiefs, forcing 3 turnovers to help win the game 40-24.

As for both teams, it is still very early in the season and there is always room for improvement however, there are concerns for both teams. For the Falcons, the team will have to finish the season without Brent Grims, who is one of the leagues best at his position. And for the Cheifs, the only problem is that for the team to get healthy. Both Brandon Carr and Tamba Ali missed Sunday’s game but, should be available for week 2.

My Daily Journal #2

I had a very exciting day today. I finally found  a car and I just moved in my new place, all in the same day. Everything was very hectic and busy, it seemed as if the time flew by. I had to buy new household supplies, new furniture, decorate, and do things for my car also. That included going to get insurance, getting smell goods, and after I buy every car I take it to be inspected. To my suprise I was told that I needed breaks. So I returned it to the dealer and I am currently waiting on my free repairs! I really loved my day.

Double Standards

What is a double standard? A "double standard"  is a rule or principle that is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups.
Double standards have come to be common in America. They play a huge role in most people's lives, but they are mostly portrayed to be negative on the women's sides. Double standards have actually brainwashed several women into thinking that they are not allowed to do certain things that men can. For example, why is it ok for a male to possess several sex partners in the same time period but if a woman were to do it she would be viewed as a derogatory title such as a "whore"? Why do men try to stop females from partaking in activities that they think are only fit for men? Such as: wrestling, playing football, or even lifting weights. In most opinions, mainly women's opinions, double standards are known to be unequally fair and makes women feel inferior to men.
Double standards can vary from households to workplaces. Have you ever been held to a double standard previously in your life? It has been brought to our attention from personal experience that most parents are more protective of their daughters than they are their sons. Growing up into teenage years, we realize that the time a BOY decides to come home from a party, a date, or just hanging out becomes less and less important. On the other hand, if a GIRL were to come home late, it would probably result in negative consequences because girls usually have a curfew of 12:00am if not before. These observations all result back to the crude effects of double standards.
Double standards may also differ in age, race, culture, and social standing. According to the author, Bonnie Gayle, from www.yourtango.com, women experience unfair double standards often. She was higly upset and strongly disagreed with Rush Limbaugh's "slut" comment directed towards an innocent woman stating her argument on the topic of contraceptives. We are all human beings so shouldn't we all be treated equally as such?

The Sporting Edge

Starting in 2009 from 2011 football season for the NFL, the New Orleans Saints defensive players had a deal with their coach. The deal was that the players would get paid extra money for making big hits on the opposing team. In 2009 they were targeting high profile quarterbacks like Brett Favre and Kurt Warner in the 2009-2010 playoffs. The NFL started investigating the Saints in 2010 and then this past 2011-2012 season they confirmed that this deal was happening.

Jonathan Vilma, Anthony Hargrove, Will Smith, and Scott Fujita are the players that had a connection with the deal. These four players will meet with Rodger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, about their suspension and other action dealing with this scandal. There will also be three players representing the NFLPA (National Football League Players’ Association) in the trials for the four players. Vilma and several teammates including the head coach Joe Vitt, testified in a federal case claiming they were not intending to injure any other players. Only Smith played on Sunday, when the Saints lost to Washington. Vilma was placed on the physically unable to perform list, while Fujita sat out Cleveland’s loss to Philadelphia with a leg injury. Hargrove was cut by Green Bay during the preseason.

Before Goodell meets with the other players he will meet with Vilma on Monday in New York to discuss his suspension for the 2012 football season. He can still reinstate their suspension time.

My Daily Journal

Today was a busy day. I took my daughter to the doctor for her check up. We were there all day long,at least that's what it felt like. I also went to search for a new car. I felt as if everything I looked at wasn't for me,considering I am a very picky person. There was always something I didn't like about each car. I viewed almost  a million cars. It seemed as though none of them were for me. I didn't want to rush and buy the very first thing I saw, so i decided I would take my time and look tomorrow. After I went hunting for a car I had a very nice family dinner. There was roast, macaroni, potatoes, and green beans. My day was pretty regular, kind of like most days.

Blog Criteria

I believe a good criteria should consist of a good and reliable source. You do not want a bad source, so you should make sure that your source can help out the reader. Also, when the reader looks up a blog, they should be able to find the specific information that they are looking for. A good blog should consist of the right date of the blog. The blog should have accurate facts. Readers are looking for the real story or the actual facts in the blog. The blog should have an interest title to go along with it.

The Sports Life

I'm liking the sports idea simply because I believe that sports can relate to everyone in some type of way. Sports are played throughout the world and is one thing that all the nations have to exercise their competitive edge among each other and amongst the rest of the world. I feel like the sports issue is very easy to discuss throughout the year because something new is always happening and someone new is always losing or winning.

Theme (sports)

I think that the classes theme should be on sports. Sports are very interesting to talk about plus there are many types of sports to talk about. People can relate to it in many different ways. Sports are soothing to people and also used to relieve stress and other things, so sports can be discussed in different ways in which in how it helps people and why it helps people. It can be a amazing and easy topic to elaborate on so thats why I think the classes theme needs to be on sports.

Blog Post #2

I feel that the blog theme should be UPD and their rules. Do you feel that they are to strict on parking violations and pulling you over? Let's try to make some rules that we feel are a little more leniant and more understanding, and try to take them to the police department and let them go through the system and get them passed. I feel like if we really put our minds too we could possibly change some things around here!!

Hi class i feel as if we should discuss campus tickects Blog post #2

Well class this topic is something i could talk about all day, but ima get straight to the point. Campus tickects are so point less to me, because it's a tickect basically saying you cant park in a certain place. I feel as if we should be able to park in any color zone because we pay VERY high tuition just to be a student JSU. By giving students tickect is not really gonna help anything. I mean think about it's  like buying a house, and saying you have to park in a certain spot in your drive way. The main focus should be staying focus, and doing your work. I think this will be a interesting subject to discuss in class because i fell like my classmates can relate!!!

Blog Post #2

Dear class,
For this semester I feel as if it would fun to discuss things about your past! And I know somethings from people's past are hard to talk about but you know to be able to learn more about each other and grow closer as a group, we could talk about things or situations that have happened to you before in your lifetime. Because I mean you never know like what you say sometimes could affect other peoples' life's. I mean this is such a wide variety of things you could talk about with this topic I feel like we would have no problem with writing about this for a whole semester. Such as, good things that happened to you in your life like during high school or just at any point in time that you think people could relate too. I think it would be a fun learning experience for everyone! Thanks for listening and considering my opinion!

Vote or Shut Up! (Blog Post #2)

Well since we are all of age and the month of November is right around the corner I feel I should discuss voting and the importance of it. I'm not trying to curve the vote or opinion of anyone reading. You see it everyday, people complaining about the leader of the nation for one reason or another. Criticizing him on his decisions or something that is going on in the world that most of the time may be out of his control or maybe even something that was done in a past term that he hasn't been able to correct yet because you can not just fix political problems in a day. What I wish we as people would understand is while complain about these things we are the ones to choose this official that goes into office so when we are not satisfied we should not take it out on the elected official it's our own fault. That is why we should take it upon ourselves to vote for the person who goes in office. So many people pass up the chance to vote then have the nerve the talk down upon or criticize the leader of our nation. People we have to use our right to vote. Regardless of race we should all take place in voting because the future of our nation depends on us.

Blog post # 2

A big topic we could blog about is Domestice Violance. It's a really big issue that isn't really discussed as much as it needs to be. Men in women everywhere are victims in these situations everyday. Many people don't know how to get out of them or are just scared to talk about them. Some celebrities have been involved in some demestic violance desputes. The whole Rihanna and Chris Brown story was one of the biggest topics in 2009. The most recent case was the football player Ocho Cinco with his then wife Evelyn Lozada. After the whole thing happend he got fired from the Dolphins. It could be an interesting topic I feel.
Hello class! I feel as if we should discuss the presidential election this semester due to the fact that this is the year we are scheduled to vote again. We can discuss our views on the candidates and how we feel about their opinions. Also, we can go as far as comparing and contrasting the pros and cons on President Obama and Mitt Romney's perspectives on America and elaborate on which political party will be more beneficial to our country in the next four years.

The Story of Paige Suttles

Hello, I'm Paige Danielle Suttles and i'm from a very small town in Georgia called Dalton. I was born on August 25, 1994. In highschool I participated in Cheerleading and track and field. I was the co-captain on my cheerleading squad. I love music and I listen basically to anything. 80's rock, 2 chainz, rihanna just to list a few. I also enjoy meeting new people and learning new things about individuals. I hate being surrounded around boring people. I've always been the girl that everyone knows for being crazy, in a good way, and outgoing. I love to laugh and I like to make people laugh as well. I'm a very silly girl. I have one bestfriend and we've been bet friends since the third grade. We're always together but we went our seprate ways when we left for college. She attends GSU (Georgia State University). We are like sisters. In my free time I really enjoy shopping. I can pretty much shop for anything. I hate going to wal mart because I buy everything except the things I need. Fashion is always on my mind. I love fashion. Especially the 50 and 60's era. Marilyn Monroe is one of my biggest fashion icons from those era's. That pretty much wraps it up. If you would like to get to know me better talk to me. I like making new friends.

Gas Prices/Alternative fuel source

Oh my lord!! This is something I could ramble on about for hours. Is it a coincidence that gas prices sky rocket during holidays. Oil companies are making millions. Every quarter these companies post profits that are unbelievable while we pay ever higher and higher prices at the pump. I personally would like to understand why these prices fluctuate so much and why hasn't our government done something drastic to change it. There are an immense amount of ideas about alternate fuel sources that we could use but still there as been no change. I would love to discuss this further and possibly finding a solution to this problem. Oh yeah. I almost forgot. The recent oil disaster that spilled millions of gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico was from a British Petroleum oil rig. The next time you put Castrol into your vehicle, turn the bottle around and you'll notice BP at the bottom. You may have stopped purchasing your gas at a BP station but I bet you're still buying Castrol.

I have decided to talk about sports as a theme. Mostly, because its always a game on TV, so you will always have something to write about. Its also a big topic. Sports are in every country in the world you are bound to find something interesting with the millions of sports being played. Also every game is recorded so if you happen to miss it you can go online and watch it again and again. I think this would be a good and interesting theme for our class.

Blog Opinion

I'm with Jake on this one. I'm a sports guy and I would like to see how athletes hold their composer on and off the field. We can see if the true stereo type of athletes party and don't really care about their classes are true. You see it in movies all the time and if you have never wondered if what they do is true then somethings wrong with you. I'm just kidding but I would like to look into athlete behavior on and off the field to see if it is true on how they act in the movies.

Blog #2

I think that politics would be a great topic of discussion becasuse everyone has different political opinions on how our country should be ran. This is an election year and for the first time in my 20 years of existence, I will be particpaitng and my vote will help someone(Obama) win the election. When speaking of political topics, many things come to mind such as the econmy, medicare, crime, etc., however I feel that the best man should be elected based on how he will help our country and how it will benefit all of us as a whole in every way possible so that our country will be a better place to live.

My Bio!

My name is Justice Tyeana Forbes.I am eighteen years old and I was born on January. 29, 1994. I grew up in Munford Alabama and I have lived there all my life. I attended Munford High School all my life and I was a MHS cheerleader for one year.I really enjoy spending time with my family, and talking on the phone. I am majoring in nursing and I am a freshman at JSU. I am a very bright person who loves to laugh and smile. I always have fun even if its a bad day or not.I also enjoy hanging out with my friends. In my spare time I like to read sometimes. But most of my time is dedicated to school work and taking care of my five month old daughter Amariyah. I have always been a hard worker all of my life. I am a person who makes sure everything is neat and in order everytime. I dont stop task until I feel like its perfect. I take my school work and my personal life very seriously.

Child Abuse

I think child abuse is a very interesting and touchy subject. It is a very popular topic that a lot of people have written about.  People have gone through it and there are things being done to stop it. I believe people should do more to prevent it and work harder to make sure that doesn't go on longer than it already has.

Over Paid or Under Paid?

I always wonder why professional athletes got paid more money than teachers. I think it would be interesting to elaborate on this topic. I feel you have teachers that really make an impact on students lives and keep them on a positive route and out of trouble. You also, have the athlete that put their lives on the line to do the job they love. Talking on this subject might just give us insight on if society is backwards.

Blog Post #2: Diagnostic

I think the topic of Domestic Violence wold be a good topic to elaborate on. Not so much as just violence against the woman but also the violence against a man. I know, well I can say I've known guys to get physically and mentally abused by their partner. We should elaborate on this topic on all levels. Meaning no religion, ethnicity or sexuality will be dismissed from the conversation. We can talk about the difference of disrespect V.S abuse.

Getting to know Tyri !

Class blog topic opinion

I know this may sound sort of elementary, but I believe that a good topic for a class blog would be college football season. I enjoy watching college football and I believe that not only would it be an interesting topic to discuss scores, but it would also be interesting to go further in the blog and discuss the behavior of college football players (or atheletes in general) on and off the field. I mean these atheletes are suppose to hold themselves to a higher caliber than others and many are not doing that these days. Every day we hear about an athelete being suspended or being arrested for something stupid they have done. I know that may not interest some students, but I think the topic can be elaborated on.

About Me

My name is Truvious Spears, I'm from a small town called Evergreen which is located in southern Alabama. I'm a sophmore at Jacksonville State, My major is currently exercise science, but may be subjective to change in the future.

Welcome to the Life of Ashlyn Odom

Hey fellow classmates,
My name is Ashlyn Odom. I'm a freshman here at Jacksonville and I'm loving every minute of it! So, I guess I can start off by giving you a little bit of background information about me. My birthday is July 24th, 1994, which makes me 18 years old.  I was born and raised in Oak Grove, Alabama. Most of you probably are saying to yourself, "I don't know where that is!", don't worry because most people don't! It's about an hour away from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I attended Oak Grove High School where I was part of many organizations, such as, Math Club, National Honor Society, Ambassadors, FFA (Future Farmers of America), Band, Color Guard, and Winter Guard. Also, during my senior year of high school I was the senior class historian.
But now since I've moved on to college I am beginning to become more involved like I was during high school. I like to stay busy for some reason it keeps me focused on my school work and keeps me from getting into trouble. I am a part of the Marching Southerners as a JSU Marching Ballerina. Yes, it is a lot of hard work having to practice every week during the summer and moving here to Jacksonville three weeks before all the other freshman just to be able to practice. But I love it and my experiences that I've had already are wonderful and I wouldn't change them for anything in this world. This weekend the Marching Southerners are traveling to Arkansas for the football game against the Razorbacks. I cannot wait it is defiantly going to be one of those unforgettable experiences.
I honestly cannot believe that I am apart of such an amazing group of talented girls like this one.  However,  I am also happy to say that I am one of these talented young ladies! I cannot wait to get to know everyone of you better during this semester. So that was a little chunk of my busy, wonderful and fun life!

My Life

Hello

Hello everyone. This is my first semester at Jacksonville State University. I'm a transfer student from Gadsden State. I'm 28 years old. I'm married and have a little girl named Mary. I'm a member of the Alabama Nation Guard. I've served in the military previously before joining back up. I mainly rejoined to pay for my education and to have some additional income to provide for my family. I was born in Starkville, Mississippi. I lived there for approximately twenty-two years before my wife dragged me over here. Honestly, there isn't much of a difference between the two states besides all the Alabama fans. I'm a Mississippi State bulldog fan myself. I'm looking forward to the upcoming football season. It never seems to get here quick enough. When I'm not in school I spend most of my time with my family doing various activities. I enjoy playing golf, working out, gaming,  and hanging out with friends and family. I'm a really easy-going guy who likes to eat, drink, and laugh. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. Thanks.

The Bryant Mitchell Experience

My name is Bryant Mitchell, a sophomore at Jacksonville State University from Mobile, AL. I am 19 years of age until May 27th. I also play football here at JSU. I am looking forward to this season's schedule as we play Arkansas and Florida, hoping we win going in as the underdogs. I have a unique personality nothing like most people you would meet. I tend to be laid back and quiet ,but at times I can get a little rowdy. I am also a very kind and respectful person who doesn't go around looking for trouble. I look forward to getting to know everyone and hopefully become good friends.

In 2010 when I was 17 I found out I had Luekemia, it was a very rough thing to deal with but I am doing very well now that my cancer is gone and in remission. After getting sick I learned to not take everything for granted and I have have a better outlook on life because I found out it could have been taken away in an instant. I have a very laid back and outgoing personallity and love to joke around and laugh. I am majoring in communications and will minor is sports medicine. During my time here at JSU I am also pursuing my football career after the walk-on try outs. Football is my passion and I've been a fan of the game ever since I was younger, as well as a participant. Hilarious, charming,  and out going are only a few words that describe me and hopefully as I develop friendships with my classmates, you all will agree as well.

Class Blog Topic Option

I believe that gay marriage would be a good topic for us as a class to talk about. Right now in our country and many states there are a lot homosexuals trying to have the same rights as heterosexuals , in the aspect of being able to get married. I do believe we have a diverse selection of students from many different towns in the class and I think all the different opinions would be good to hear. I do think within the recent years more homosexuals have been coming out and many of us have encountered them. Maybe with a topic like this we can educate one another. Many individuals think that homosexuals were not born gay, or that they chose that life style. Some even consider them not human. It is a sad thing to think that many years ago we as a nation were in the same boat with people that have different skin color. Now here today no matter what the skin color it seems to be a life choice that everyone seems to have an issue about. When the first case of a homosexuality first came about , anyone that claimed to be gay would be beaten to death or pretty close to that. With more awareness now , those children who don't know who to go to and tell someone now have a outlet to express themselves. This isn't always the case but if we can be at least more supportive towards someone else s lifestyle choice , they can learn to respect ours. If someone was to verbally attack me on my tattoos or the way my hair was cut, I'd defend myself. As the saying goes "people fear what they don't understand", if some how our class could become more educated on the subject and have some more respect towards homosexuals and how they want equal rights , it will be a great leap and bound some never accomplish.

This is me

My name is Wesley Moore and I am from Marietta, Georgia. If you don't know where that is, it is about 20 minutes North West of Atlanta. I've been in Marietta for all my life. In middle school I played football and baseball. Freshman year of high school I broke my collar bone during football, so I decided to stop playing. But I stuck with baseball all four years of school. My high school coach has hooked me and another player from the high school team up with a guy who played baseball beyond high school. We will have a chance to play in France. Our chances of playing there looks very high, because the guy who played over there knows a lot of the coaches there and he is willing to make this happen for us. If it all works our I'll be leaving during the spring semester of my could be second semester of my freshman year. So I have to figure out how I'll be able to leave school and hopefully come back here to finishe my studies.

My major that I have chosen is Communications. I would like to go into the braudcasting or radio part of the major. I have wanted to be a radio talk show host, sports caster, or a weather man. I don't listen to talk radio that much but it has always intrested me. I also love sports, football and baseball are my favorite. Weather is something that is really intresting to me. I like wondering how the weather will be and see if the current weather men and women are correct by looking at the map. So hopefully with a Communications major I will be able to become one of those people on the radio or television.

Cpl Champion

My name is Jessi Champion. I was born in Texas on October 25, 1987. When I was four, I was adopted by my loving parents who lived in Munford, Alabama. I attempted college at JSU six years ago, but I found too many distractions to involve myself in and dropped out. Shortly after, I found myself in a downward spiral of drugs. It wasn't long before I realized that I was going to end up in jail or dead. Instead of continuing down the path of drugs I chose to join the Marine Corps. It was in boot camp that I realized how strong of a person I really was. The Marines taught me confidence, courage, team work, perseverance, and many other positive qualities. I've been on three separate deployments and visited over 13 countries, including Haiti, Greece, Italy, and Afghanistan. I recently completed my four year contract this past November as a Corporal. It's taken me a little while to adjust back into the civilian world. I've come back to JSU to pursue my career in Psychology. I'm determined this time around to achieve success. After I graduate with a bachelor's degree, I plan to get my Master's. And some how take over the world! Actually I would like to become world renowned for something within my field and be able to change peoples lives. I would like to help as many people as I can and in return get personal satisfaction that I have been living my own destiny that I have chosen for myself , not someone else or any kind of substance. I look forward to getting to know everyone, and having a good time in this class.

Class Blog Topic Option

Obviously we all want to have a topic we can relate to, and a topic that will also be interesting to read other classmates perspectives. I was thinking that one topic our class might like is "The Freshmen Experience". This topic has a lot of different components, such as, being away from home, the start of classes, living with friends, having less boundaries, and how all of that is affecting us. This topic can continue to be talked about in the blog for a lengthy period of time, and I believe everyone in class can relate to it.  When you think about the "freshmen experience" every topic or situation really gets down to being young and kind on your own for the first time. Even with there being more mature in age classmates, they can think back to when they were 18 or 19 years old and talk about their experiences.
Hello class!

My name is Jade' Miche' Ishman. I was born on August 30th in Birmingham, Alabama. I am the youngest of three siblings (older brother and older sister). I graduated from Ramsay High School on May 23rd 2012 and I am currently a freshman here at JSU just like most of you. My favorite past times are shopping, first and foremost, eating, dancing, singing, and entertaining friends. My major is Pre-Nursing and I am determined to make my life dream come true and become an RN. My personality may often be described as humorous, caring, social and out-going; which means I'm always open to making new friends! I hope to develop friendships with all of you as we excel as a class this semseter.

About me.

My name is Michael Hargrove. I was born on December 4, 1991. I was raised in Birmingham, AL my whole life. I went to Baker Elementary in my neighborhood which is Ensley. While in Birmingham, I stayed with my mother Mona Hargrove until I graduate Minor High School. After I graduated from high school, I began working for a company called Aerotek. Aerotek is a company that hires temporary workers and place them in areas to do work for a specific time period. I worked there for almost a year before I start attending JSU. I'm a cool person to be around and I enjoy life no matter how difficult things may seem. My hobbies are playing football and basketball with my friends. If its one thing I have to have, it would be my music. Listening to music is my favorite hobby. One day I plan that I get into the music industry and create great music.

Introductory Post

My name is Josh Howell. I was born April 20, 1994. I grew up in Paulding County Georgia. I graduated from a decent sized high school named South Paulding. I was a member of a very large graduating class that year (about 450 graduates). I was on the drumline at my high school for my whole career there. Drumming is a big part of my life, especially now that I am on the Marching Southerners Drumline. We practice about 15 hours a week, so between my band schedule and my class schedule I am a very busy person, but I try to have a little bit of a social life. Another thing to know about me is that I laugh a lot, but how I look at it, it is better to live a happy life and laugh than to live a sad life and look back on your life and regret not enjoying your time.
For fun I like to sleep, drum, play sports, hang out with friends, and just overall have a good time. Being on the drumline I have already made alot of friends that most people have not had the opputunity to do yet. I feel like since coming to college i have not only developed more as a person but I have also became more open to trying new things and talkin to people that I usually wouldn't have talked to in high school. There are people everyday who walk past you and never say a word to you, but who knows maybe that person could be the person that changes your life, and you would've never known that if you didn't just stop and say hey. Hopefully this is me in just a couple of days in Fayetteville for the football game against the Razorbacks!!!

Rebecca Batchelder

Hi Class,
My name is Rebecca Batchelder, and i am a freshmen at Jacksonville State University. I moved to Alabama right before my senior year of high school from New Hampshire. We moved here because Alabama, about two springs ago, had bad tornado's and my father is a builder, so that meant work for our family. I liked living in New Hampshire but I have moved around in the past a couple of times so I'm no stranger to being "the new kid".  However, moving to the south from the north, which is where I have spent most of my life, was a culture shock to me. So many things are different here, the food, the schools, the people, and above all, the temperature. Admittingly the transition from New Hampshire to Alabama has been by far the hardest move i have experienced. If the culture didn't differentiate enough, the move was also harder because it had landed on the summer before my senior year. Even though everyone knows that moving your senior year is hard, it is still only one year. If you don't fine anything you like about a new school, especially when its your last year, look to the bright side and tell your self "It is almost over". I only had to do that a few times but it did come in handy. I had a pretty good year and made some really great friends. Now I am a freshmen again and have to start all over again with making new friends and getting to know a new campus. I guess last year helped in preparation for this year. I think and hope that this school will hold great experiances for me and really become my home away from home.
